Nine winners from universities around the country will receive the all-expenses paid trip, which is set for June 15-23 this year.
During the trip, the group meets with journalists in print, broadcast, online journalism to talk about and see the latest in new media technology.
The competition, established in 1984 in cooperation with the Indiana University School of Journalism, honors the memory of Roy W. Howard, who led Scripps Howard Newspapers from 1922-1953 and United Press International from 1912-1920. Asia was an area of special interest to Howard, who traveled and reported on the area extensively, even while leading major news organizations.
School of Journalism Dean Brad Hamm, a Howard scholar and frequent traveler to Asia, leads the trip. The school has several ties to Howard, including housing his archives at Ernie Pyle Hall.
The Scripps Howard Foundation administers the contest. Winners will be announced in March.
