| Alumnus Amy Wimmer Schwarb’s new play looks at the state of the newspaper industry. The title is inspired by the old printer’s mark, –30–, indicating the end of the copy. |
The evening starts out with happy hour at 7 p.m. at The Front Page, 310 Massachusetts Ave., and is open to all alumni.
Schwarb’s play starts at 9 p.m. at the IndyFringe Theatre, 719 E. St. Clair St., and continues with May 8 and May 9 performances. The presentation is part of the Fringe’s DivaFest, a celebration of women playwrights.
Inspired by the current state of affairs in journalism, the play is about a newspaper reporter who decides to cover the industry itself. Schwarb, BAJ ’98, is executive editor of Indianapolis Monthly who spent nine years as a reporter at the St. Petersburg Times. "Dash 30 dash" (-30-) is an old printer’s mark indicating the end of the copy.
"The play has a time element, since the situation is changing so fast," Schwarb said Friday after the Indy Pro chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists’ annual banquet. "It looks at what is happening right now in the newspaper business."
IU Student Publications Alumni formed nearly two years ago to unite all IU alumni who worked on publications such as the Indiana Daily Student and Arbutus yearbook.
