2010 Census competition team hosting events to raise awareness

The IU team competing for a national prize for publicity campaigns has set several events this month to engage students in the 2010 Census.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 17: Census Nonsense at 7 p.m. in the Alumni Hall at the Indiana Memorial Union.
  • Saturday, Feb. 20: Hoosier Treasure Hunt at 3 p.m. in the lobby of the Wells Library.
  • Feb. 22: Count Me If You Can: College students, college towns and the 2010 Census, 7 p.m. at the Hutton Honors College. Bloomington City Councilman Steve Volan is the guest.
  • Feb. 24: Students may pick up census materials at the Count Us IN booth at the summer camp job fair at Alumni Hall in the Indiana Memorial Union.
  • Feb. 25: The team will describe all the details of the 2010 Census prior to the 9 p.m. tip-off of the IU men’s basketball game against Wisconsin.
IU’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America is sponsoring the team for the Bateman Competition, a nationwide contest that involves about 80 universities creating public awareness campaigns for the 2010 Census. The IU team submits its final work in March.
