Spring break Japan travelers safe

SoJ Web Report | March 11, 2011
(6:45 a.m. Friday, March 11) A class studying international reporting felt the full effect of global events when Japan's Friday earthquake stopped their travel to Japan.

Students in J460 International Reporting were to depart from Indianapolis to Japan this morning but have returned to Bloomington. Flights to Tokyo have reopened, and the School of Journalism is currently evaluating alternative travel options. The school's top priority is the safety of the students, according to journalism dean Brad Hamm.

Students and others with the group updated their Twitter and Facebook feeds as they waited to hear from airlines.

As for the other five trips, students already are in Austin, Texas, and Sydney, Australia. Other groups leave today through Sunday.
