At July 18’s annual Take It Easy Open, 57 golfers raised more than $2,000 for the John M. Jackson Memorial Scholarship.Playing at the Links Golf Club in New Palestine, the winning team included Greg Bardonner, Dan Murphy, Brad Watts and Stan Watts, who shot a 62, which was 10 under par, according to one of the organizers, J.R. Ross (B.A.J. ‘96). The event’s other fundraiser includes a raffle of goods and services.
But Ross and participants say the goal of the outing is to keep alive the memory of John Jackson, who died in 1996 of a brain aneurysm. The IU senior had been IDS editor-in-chief the summer before his death. Ross and other friends of Jackson’s started the outing in 2001. It has since raised more than $45,000 for scholarships, including the award of $4,000 this spring.
