Graduate Admission Requirements

The following are required before the School of Journalism can evaluate your application:
  • Online application: Indiana University charges a non-refundable application fee of $50.
  • Statement of purpose: This is included as part of the online application.
  • Transcripts: Students who are U.S. citizens should have official transcripts of all college coursework mailed directly to the School of Journalism:

  • Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores: The Educational Testing Service will mail scores directly to the School of Journalism address above for U.S. citizens.  International students should have the Educational Testing Service mail scores to the above International Admissions address.

    • The department code and name: 4503 Journalism/Mass Communications

  • Recommendation letters: Three recommendation letters can be submitted online by the writers. Or, writers may send letters directly in signed and sealed envelopes to the School of Journalism at the above address.
  • Certify English language proficiency: Applicants whose native language is not English should certify English proficiency by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). This requirement includes international students who have been or currently are enrolled a U.S. educational institution.
