Biography
William Gillis began the PhD program at IU in 2006. He received his BA in American Studies from Colby College in 1995 and an MS in Journalism at Ohio University in 2005.
Gillis is currently working on his dissertation, which focuses on anti-media activism in the United States among grassroots conservatives during the 1970s.
For 2009-2010 he is teaching in the American Studies department. This fall he is teaching A 201: The American Suburbs, 1945-Present, a course he proposed and designed. In the spring he will teach A 100: What Is America?, a course focusing on American political and cultural rebels.
Gillis has also taught J 200: Reporting, Writing, and Editing I in the journalism school in the fall 2006 and spring 2007 semesters. He also taught J 231: Introduction to News Writing in the Ohio University E.W. Scripps School of Journalism in the fall of 2004.
He has worked as a writer, reporter and editor for six years, including work for the Eagle-Tribune in Lawrence, Mass., Athens (Ohio) News, the Ohio D.O. and Rounds, Field Force Automation magazine, Home Office Computing magazine, and Small Business Computing magazine in New York.
