In addition to class work, you may complete internships to gain on-the-job experience and test your skills. IU boasts the country’s third-largest network of living alumni, among them journalism alumni who, with your career services director and faculty mentors, are eager to help you succeed.
Internships
Where can you learn on the job? Recent graduate students have interned at National Geographic, NPR, NBC/Univision in Beijing, the Chicago Tribune, Reuters in Seoul, Hill and Knowlton PR agency in Chicago and Voice of America in Washington, D.C.Students on both campuses compete for internships arranged by the National Sports Journalism Center. Recently, these included ESPN, the Associated Press, the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times.

The goal is to get the job of your dreams. Graduates land jobs in many different fields, from newspapers, magazines, TV stations and websites to public relations, business, law, politics and academia.Graduate program alumni include the news editor in Reuters’ Berlin office; the editor of Online Journalism Review; a multimillionaire entrepreneur; tenured faculty members at universities across the globe; deans at journalism, communication and law schools in places such as Washington and the United Arab Emirates; and the managing editors of Fortune magazine, Seventeen magazine and the Washington Post.
