During its Oct. 17-18 meeting, the IU Board of Trustees will vote on a proposal to move journalism into the College of Arts and Sciences, where it would join other programs to form a new media school. Franklin Hall would be renovated to house the new entity.
“In our Memorandum of Understanding between the school and the College, we have made provisions for an area to display and celebrate not just Ernie Pyle but all of our alumni,” Interim Dean Lesa Hatley Major said earlier this week.
Members of the Ernie Pyle Legacy Committee are: Hatley Major; associate professor and journalism historian Owen V. Johnson; Professor Emeritus of history James Madison; Matt Morris, BA’80; Marjorie (Smith) Blewett, BA'48; Jim Capshew, associate professor, Department of History and Philosophy of Science; and Bloom magazine editor Mike Leonard, former president of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.
The committee welcomes ideas about the preservation of Ernie Pyle’s legacy. Submit your suggestions here.
