|Julie Shapiro of Third Coast International visits at 5 p.m. Thursday to talk about radio documentaries.|
Shapiro, artistic director of the Third Coast International Audio Festival, will talk at 5 p.m. March 21 in Ernie Pyle Hall 214. This event is open to all students.
In addition to sharing career information, Shapiro will describe the Third Coast ShortDocs Challenge, a contest for pros and students to submit their three minute audio stories. She’ll present some of the winners from last year and answer questions.
Based in Chicago, the Third Coast International Audio Festival curates audio stories from around the world to present on radio, online and at public events. Anyone may log onto the site to listen to podcasts, and some material airs on Chicago radio.
Friday, Shapiro will spend time with audio storytelling students and American Student Radio members in one-on-one critique sessions. Visiting professor Sarah Neal-Estes, who teaches the classes and is faculty sponsor for ASR, arranged the visit.
