Indiana University School of Journalism

Incoming Students: Scholarships

Each year, the School of Journalism awards thousands of dollars in scholarship funds to undergraduate students from funds donated by alumni and other professionals seeking to support student journalists. These awards are given to students who have demonstrated a serious intention of pursuing a career in mass media.

This money is available specifically to attract high-quality students into journalism; therefore, priority is given to students with strong academic records who have participated in journalistic activities in high school and show a strong promise for building a successful career in newspapers, broadcasting, graphics, photography or magazine work.

Justin M. Druck Scholarship – IUB

Eligibility: High school students, geographic requirements

The Justin M. Druck Scholars Program provides a four-year scholarship for incoming Indiana University freshmen who have a demonstrated interest in the pursuit of a journalism degree. The scholarships are awarded to high school seniors who are Indiana residents, with a first preference for students from a Cass County, Ind., high school. If in any given year a recipient is not selected from Cass County, then second preference is for high school seniors from a high school in Carroll, Fulton, Howard, Miami, Pulaski or White counties in Indiana. If a recipient is not eligible from those counties, then preference will be given to students from the next surrounding counties and so on.

Recipients should have a record of academic achievement that meets the standards of the Scholarship Committee of the Indiana University School of Journalism.

The scholarship covers up to $10,000 per year toward tuition, room and board. If the recipients are admitted to the School of Journalism and maintain the academic standing and progress toward a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism that the school's guidelines for scholarships define, the scholarship will continue for a maximum of four years (eight semesters) from the recipient's first enrollment at Indiana University. If the recipients change from the school to another degree program, they will no longer be eligible for the scholarship. The number, amount and recipients of the scholarship will be determined by the Scholarship Committee of the School and will be based on the availability of funds.

The application process begins in fall with a Jan. 15 deadline.
