Among many hobbies, Carpenter enjoys pub darts.
For some, success is defined by wealth. Others define it by good fortune or fame. For Grace Carpenter, however, “Success is about being happy . . . not a big name or a lot of money.”

Carpenter said that she has learned to find happiness in the simple things of life. For example, she loves eating lunch in Dunn Meadow, and she appreciates a fresh layer of snow covering the arboretum in the winter.

As a 67-year-old woman with years of life experience, Carpenter now feels comfortable with her own definition of success.

“Success is learning who I am,” said Carpenter.

Along with preserving quilts, Grace Carpenter is very passionate about preserving the environment.

“It’s important to conserve the environment,” Carpenter said. “We should do more.”

One important shift that Carpenter wants Americans to make “is to find a way of transportation that doesn’t harm the environment.”
