Bloomington resident Steve Scott has been involved in martial arts for over 34 years. It was when Scott and his family moved to Hawaii that he first had the chance to enroll in a martial arts course. In high school at the time, his experience as the new kid in school gave Scott a reason to take an interest in martial arts.
While Scott was initially enrolled in public high school, he transferred to a private school called Punahou School. Punahou School, best known as Barack Obama’s alma mater, offered several martial arts classes.
Now, Scott divides his time between teaching martial arts at his own school, Monroe County Martial Arts (MCMA) and the Monroe County YMCA. While teaching martial arts comes with many challenges, the class that Scott teaches at the YMCA has a few additional ones.
