The volunteers in Fair Trade Bloomington are working to open a store that sells only goods that meet strict ethical and environmental standards. They’re part of a movement that believes Fair Trade can be a way out of poverty for workers and their families in developing countries and a humane response to globalization for consumers in developed countries.

The students in the group hope to open an indepedent, self-sustaining store in Bloomington. 
 
 
Church sale
Until then, they hold Fair Trade sales, including this one at First Presbyterian Church.
 
 
Mary Embry
Professor Mary Embry teaches in the IU Department of Apparel Merchandising and Interior Design. Her work with the Fair Trade group has inspired a number of her students to get involved.

Student leader Leela Summers spoke of the satisfaction of being able to work to help others.

Sophomore Julia Greenwald, another volunteer, is crafting an individualized major around Fair Trade principles.
