The Digital Journalist 

The Digital Journalist is a multimedia magazine for photojournalism in the digital age.  It features contemporary photojournalists and their work.  Each photojournalism story is accompanied by an introduction form the photographer or friend of the photographer and an interview. It includes the latest work form photojournalists all over the world as well as a look into the not to far past.  This site provides compelling images for discussion.

 

Magnum

Magnum today is a cooperative of about 60 photographers. It was founded in 1947 and has offices worldwide. This site contains information and examples of Magnum photo work in editorial, advertising and corporate venues. Both Robert Capa and Henri Cartier-Bresson were Magnum photographers. Photojournalism of current events is highlighted on the site.

 

MediaLink News Photos  

MediaLink is like a mini AP Photo Wire. It provides a selection of news images free to registered users. Photos are displayed in chronological order, the most recent appearing first. Down load any image as long as it is for editorial use only.  Advertising is prohibited.  Images are of any type of news event or celebrity.

 

MSN Picture Stories

MSN Picture Stories is a part of the news conglomerate MSNBC.  This site works with photojournalists around the world to tell stories through photographs.  The extensive collection of work by contemporary photojournalists is motivating.  Some of theses stories are good examples of how to design or layout feature stories on multiple web pages.

 

MSNBC: The Week in Pictures

MSNBC offers photos from recent events, some with accompanying video, each week on this site. The archive goes back to the beginning of 1998. Viewers can discuss the photography and even vote for the week’s best picture.

 

National Geographic

National Geographic’s photography site online features galleries of photos in the current magazine as well as a photo of the day, photography tips, and photographers discussing their work. Web links offer information on photography books, events, and shows, as well as general links to sources for photography courses, contests, copyright information, and history.

 

The Newseum

The Newseum, located in Alexandria, Virginia, hosts this look at Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalism, complete with music, audio, and information about the photographer. The photos span the period of World War II to the present. Shockwave is required to view the site.

 

Rogalbraith.com 

This is a comprehensive site for professional digital photographers that provides news, discussion forums, reviews on software and equipment.  It also has up-to-date news items on technology and photojournalism on the web.

 

Time.com Photo Essays

Time magazine online offers photo essays both past and present including essays from Asian and European editions.  Students can view Time's choices for pictures of the week for up to six months.

 

The Washington Post 

The Washington Post has one of the best sites in photojournalism for viewing and analyzing images.  Just click on "Camera Works" and it will take you there.

National Press Photographers' Association

The National Press Photographers' Association is dedicated to the advancement of photojournalism, as well as its creation, editing and distribution, in all news media. The organization has local chapters that offer contests and workshops. The site also features a job information bank for members.

 

Nikon

The name Nikon has become synonymous for precise optical instruments relating to the world's view of images and information. In addition to the world-famous Nikon professional 35mm and digital photography systems and Biomedical Microscopes, they produce compact automatic 35mm and Advanced Photo System cameras and accessories, and Nikonos underwater photography systems.

 

Pentax

For more than four decades since the introduction of the Asahiflex I in 1952 (their first camera ever), Pentax has always been a technological leader and prominent contributor of the world's 35mm SLR camera industry and more recently, the 35mm compact zoom market. Pentax's enthusiasm and devotion towards the development of high-quality products have thrived over the years and continues to be stronger than ever.
