Student media rake in awards
Student media rake in awards

Published: March 20, 2007

Nine students and student media adviser David Adams attended the College Media Advisers national conference March 15-17, where the IDS won a CMA Apple Award for Best Single Issue and the 2006 Arbutus won an Apple Award for Best Large Yearbook.

At the same time, the Columbia Scholastic Press Association awarded its Gold Crowns and other awards during a special session Saturday afternoon. Last year’s IDS won Gold Crowns for spring and fall, and the 2006 Arbutus won a Gold Grown, one of only five CSPA gave for yearbooks. Overall, only four college newspapers, nine magazines and five yearbooks received Gold Crown Awards.

Individuals enter the contests, too, and again, IU student media did well, Adams said.

“Out of about 13,000 entries, we won about 25-30 individual CSPA Gold Circle awards,” Adams explained. The CSPA Web site soon will post all the names, he said. The site already lists the Gold Crown award winners.
