Finding an internship can be challenging and even intimidating to some, but Marcia Debnam, School of Journalism career services director says there's an internship for anyone who wants one.
The key is to start looking early.
"The deadlines for summer internships begin in October and end in June. It's best not to wait to apply, however, because often the best and most desirable positions will be taken early," she advises.
Debnam sends out weekly updates of internship and job opportunities. Many internships are during summer, but some are available during the spring and fall semesters as well. Students may opt for part-time or full-time assignments.
Debnam offers many services, such as advice and tips on where and how to do research, how to put together a portfolio and how to approach employers. Students simply need to contact Marcia Debnam at jcareers@indiana.edu for an appointment or to ask questions.
Career resources such as sample resumes, cover letters and interview tips are posted on
the School's Web site for students to explore and use for guidance writing their own materials.
Also, the Career Development Center and the other career offices on campus offer a wide variety of resources for students who may be interested in career fields other than those associated with the School of Journalism. Students can go to
IUCareers.com to look at opportunities other than those in the School of Journalism.
