Administrative services coordinator Linda Johnson celebrated 25 years at the School of Journalism this week with cake, punch and reminiscing with faculty and staff.

"I was the baby of the office when I first started," Johnson recalled of her first days at the school as a fresh-out-of-high-school 18-year-old. As she looked around the crowd gathered in the Ernie Pyle Hall office Wednesday, she tried to figure out who had been on faculty and staff during her first days.

"Very few," Johnson laughed.

She began working with Jack Dvorak, director of the High School Journalism Institute, 20 years ago, coordinating accommodations and registration for the hundreds of students and journalism teachers who cycle through more than four weeks of workshops each summer.

"This year, Linda registered, fielded calls from parents, coordinated travel and accommodations for over 500 high schoolers who attended HSJI," Dvorak said, adding that as the program has grown over the years, Johnson has adapted her methods to efficiently handle all the details required to streamline the workshops.

In addition to hearing from well-wishers in the main office, Johnson received a certificate from IU marking her 25 years of service.
