Activism conference Feb. 9-10

The 2007 Cultural Studies and Activism Conference is Feb. 9-10, with the keynote address by University of North Carolina's Soyini Madison in the Ernie Pyle Auditorium Feb. 9 at 4 p.m. Soyini will speak on "Acts of Activism: Performing the Political Economy of Water."

School of Journalism professor Radhika Parameswaran is moderating the conference and served as a member of the Eleventh Annual Cultural Studies Conference organizing committee.

Other events:

Feb. 10, 10 a.m. to noon at the IMU University Club: Deepa Kumar, Faculty, School of Journalism and Media Studies, Rutgers University speaks on "Analysis of the Newspaper Coverage of the UPS Strike," based on her book, Outside the Box: Corporate Media, Globalization and the UPS Strike, University of Illinois Press, 2006.

Feb. 10, 3 to 5 p.m. at the IUM University Club: School of Journalism Ph.D. candidate Leigh Moscowitz speaks on "Media Discourse and Gay-Lesbian Activism: Pushing the Marriage Agenda."
