Journal features Raymer commentary

"Truth Vs. Fair and Balanced" is the title of professor Steve Raymer's ethics commentary in the November-December issue of News Photographer Magazine, the official journal of the National Press Photographers Association.

Writing about the recent war between Israel and Hezbollah, as well as his own experiences in Israel last Summer, Raymer says, "Merely recording what happens in front of our lens or repackaging the tens of thousands of images that pour into newsrooms into something that feels 'balanced' is no substitute for verifying the truth of what we are reporting. The 'fair and balanced' formulation may make good in TV promos on Fox News, but it usually is an abdication of journalistic duty."
