Kruks to discuss post-Soviet media

Latvian radio journalist and visiting Fulbright scholar Sergejs Kruks will speak on "Media, the Public Sphere and the Everyday Life of Journalists and Audiences: The Impact of Political and Business Culture on Media Uses in Soviet and Post-Soviet Society" Friday, March 24, at 12:30 p.m. in Ernie Pyle Hall 207.

Kruks is working in folklore while here. He was a radio journalist in Latvia from 1987-1995. He earned a degree in journalism from the University of Latvia in 1991, master's in philosophy in media studies from the University of Oslo in 1997 and a doctoral degree in information and communication science from the Sorbonne in 2003.

He was a lecturer in journalism and cultural studies at the University of Latvia from 1995-2005. In December, he published a book about radio journalism in Latvia.
