He noted that surveys have shown that 80 percent of The Wall Street Journal's readers often use two media at the same time, such as a Blackberry and the printed newspaper, and he said that the new tabloid format helps to integrate the printed and online versions of The Wall Street Journal Europe.
After this conference, Weaver traveled to Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen, Germany, where he lectured about research on U.S. journalists based on the 2002 national telephone survey of more than 1,000 of them that he worked on with School of Journalism colleagues Randal Beam,
Bonnie Brownlee, Paul Voakes (now dean of University of Colorado's School of Journalism) and retired professor G. Cleveland Wilhoit.
The research of professors Drew and Weaver on voter learning in U.S. presidential elections from 1988 to 2004 is also summarized in the latest issue (Fall 2005) of the Research & Creative Activity magazine published by the Office of the Vice President for Research at IU-Bloomington.
Weaver is pictured in Lugano with Andreina Mandelli, who graduated from the School of Journalism Ph.D. program in 1999 and now is a professor at the University of Lugano
and also at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy.
