Magazine panel April 13
Magazine panel April 13

Published: April 6, 2007

Scared of trying to break into the big bad world of magazines? Senior Brian Janosch thinks you should spend Friday the 13th learning more about working in magazines by attending a panel he?「どィび「s organized.

Four magazine writers and designers will share their stories as well as give advice to those who want to learn more about reporting, writing and designing for magazines at 2 p.m. in EP 214.

Janosch says the event will consist of two sessions. First, Emily Hendricks (B.A. ?「どィび「03), assistant editor at All You who formerly worked for Ladies Home Journal, will talk about magazine staff structure and types of jobs available at magazines.

In the second session, Janosch, who edits INside, will pass along information he gathered while attending Harvard University?「どィび「s 2006 Neiman Narrative Journalism Conference last year. School of Journalism communications assistant Tim Street, who formerly worked at Outside magazine, and senior Jordan David, INside art director, will talk about how magazine design is different from that of other media.

Hendricks wraps up the afternoon with a presentation about www.ed2010.com, a Web site she founded just for beginning journalists who want to get started in the magazine world. She?「どィび「ll officially kick off a chapter of ED201 at the School of Journalism. Chapters help local young journalists stay up on issues in the magazine industry, provide leads to jobs and network with magazine professionals.
