Apply today for IU School of Journalism Alumni Scholarships for free training through the Poynter Institute, a journalism school in St. Petersburg, Fla., that offers workshops on a multitude of topics both onsite and online.
The IU School of Journalism will award $10,000 in scholarships for IU journalism alumni to participate in training workshops at the Poynter Institute. Nelson Poynter, who studied journalism at IU, founded the institute in 1975 when he was editor of the St. Petersburg Times.
How to apply
1. Identify the Poynter Institute workshop you would like to attend. You may choose a workshop at Poynter or an online group seminar offered through Poynter’s e-learning site, News University.
2. Fill out Poynter’s online application form and indicate that you are an IU journalism alumnus and want to apply for an IU scholarship to Poynter. (This is important, or we will not know you qualify for this scholarship.) Submit your application at least two weeks before the deadline to allow the scholarship committee time to review it.
Poynter faculty, in consultation with a committee of the IU School of Journalism Alumni Board, will review your application. Poynter will let you know as quickly as possible if your application is approved.
Scholarship recipients will be responsible for their travel and lodging to workshops at Poynter.
Who qualifies
You qualify for these training scholarships if you completed the requirements for a graduate or undergraduate degree in journalism from IU.
