Undergraduate Admission Requirements

The admissions  process for the Indiana University School of Journalism is easy to navigate.

Admission requirements:

  • 26 credit hours with a 2.20 grade point average (FX calculated as F, DX calculated as D)
  • Journalism J110, J200 or J210 with a C or better
  • English composition with a C or better or exemption
  • Fundamental skills mathematics, C- or better or exemption
  • One semester of a foreign language

Direct Admission:

Most students apply to enter the school as a journalism major after their freshman years. However, students who apply to IU and express an interest in journalism may be eligible for the Direct Admission program. Those students should:
  • Have an SAT score of 1270 or above
  • Have an ACT score of 29 or above
  • Be in the top 10 percent of their high school graduating classes
