Graduate Admissions
Applying for the School of Journalism graduate programs is easy.
All prospective graduate students:
- Applications for both the master’s degree in journalism and the Ph.D. in mass communications require the same materials.
- Students who are U.S. citizens may apply online to begin the application process.
- International students should follow the instructions on the IU International Admissions Web page.
- Students may begin graduate studies in the School of Journalism in either the fall or spring semester.
M.A. students:
- Prospective master’s degree students may apply at any time. We have a rolling admissions process.
- For full consideration for fellowships and assistantships, prospective students must submit all materials at least eight weeks prior to the start of the semester in which they seek to enroll.
Ph.D. students:
- For full consideration for fellowships and assistantships, prospective doctoral students should submit all materials to the School of Journalism by Jan. 15 if applying for fall admission and Oct. 1 if applying for spring admission. These are the deadlines to apply to the doctoral program.
