Open faculty positions:
Director, High School Journalism Institute
Indiana University’s School of Journalism on the Bloomington campus seeks applications for director of the High School Journalism Institute (HSJI) with additional duties in service and teaching as a contract lecturer. The appointment would be on a 12-month basis, with major administrative duties in the summer involving leadership of the workshops for high school educators and students.Faculty members for the position should have as a minimum a master’s degree in journalism or education and have significant secondary school journalism teaching and school media advising experience. Teaching areas during the academic year would involve teacher education and other subjects within the candidate’s areas of expertise (e.g., reporting, visual, editing and mass media). Salary for the position will depend on academic and professional qualifications and experience. The position begins in August 2008.
The School of Journalism offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism as well as a Ph.D. in mass communication. At this large, state university in the hills of southern Indiana, the school is a relatively small and respected unit with 20 full-time, tenure-track or tenured faculty members, half of whom will be eligible for retirement during the next five years. The school has a growing enrollment of about 700 undergraduates and 75 graduate students. The faculty consists of a seasoned group of educators with a wide range of professional backgrounds and research interests. The university and school are noted for their research programs and are equipped with state-of-the-art resources for instruction and research.
