Professor of Practice/Director of the National Sports Journalism Center
Indianapolis

Indiana University’s School of Journalism on the Indiana University – Purdue University at Indianapolis campus seeks candidates for a Professor of Practice/Director of the National Sports Journalism Center.

As head of the nation’s most comprehensive institute for the study of sports journalism in America, the director will provide excellent leadership and an entrepreneurial spirit for the center to develop top quality and cutting-edge programs on sports media for everyone from high school students to veteran professionals. In addition to providing center leadership, the director will teach in the sports journalism program, serve as the NSJC’s public figure in university and professional events, and oversee the unique student news bureau model with NCAA and professional sports events, among other duties.

Successful candidates will have a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in journalism, communications or related field and 10 years of professional media experience.

Open-Rank Sports Journalism Faculty Position
Indianapolis

Indiana University’s School of Journalism on the Indiana University – Purdue University at Indianapolis campus seeks a faculty member with qualifications appropriate for appointment at the rank of tenured associate or full professor, beginning fall 2012 or spring 2013. Candidates’ research interests should be relevant to the important issues of the day concerning sports journalism, both nationally and globally. Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in a relevant academic field, a well-established program of nationally recognized research and publication, a commitment to classroom teaching, a record of mentoring graduate students, and a record of outreach and service. Other desirable qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively with scholars in other disciplines on campus and internationally; professional experience in a relevant mass-communications medium; a record of success securing external grants to support research projects; and entrepreneurial/leadership experience in relevant academic institutions (journal editor, association president, institute director, etc.).

Open-Rank Public Relations Faculty Position

Indiana University’s School of Journalism on the Indiana University – Purdue University at Indianapolis campus seeks candidates for one or more open-rank tenured/tenure-track positions to teach public relations, beginning fall 2012 or spring 2013. Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in a relevant academic field, a minor or other academic preparation in the health and life sciences area, a program of research and publication appropriate for the faculty rank, a commitment to classroom teaching, a record of appropriate service, and professional experience in public relations. Other desirable qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively within the school and with scholars in other disciplines on campus and internationally.

Full Professor – Journalism
Bloomington

Indiana University’s School of Journalism on the Bloomington campus seeks a senior scholar with qualifications appropriate for appointment at the rank of full professor, beginning Fall 2012 or Spring 2013.

Candidates’ research interests should be relevant to the vital issues of journalism and the media, such as political communication and public opinion, health care and science communication, communication law and policy, ethics, media history, media diversity, analyses of changes in the economics, professional roles and institutional structure of the media, or other issues—both nationally and globally.

Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in a relevant academic field, a well-established program of nationally recognized research and publication, a commitment to rigorous and innovative teaching, and a record of mentoring doctoral-level graduate students. Other desirable qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively within the school and also with scholars in other disciplines on campus and internationally, professional experience in a relevant mass-communications medium, a record of success securing external grants to support research projects, and leadership experience in relevant academic institutions (journal editor, association president, institute director, etc.).
