Biography
Bill W. Hornaday is in his first year of doctoral studies after 18 years as a newspaper reporter, primarily as a business writer and columnist for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, The Indianapolis Star and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
Hornaday has won numerous state and national awards for news, feature and business writing – including a Best of Business award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW).
In 2002 and 2003, he provided extensive coverage of the bankruptcy of Conseco Inc. – at that time the third-largest corporate bankruptcy in U.S. history. Hornaday is also co-editor and a chapter author for Contemporary Media Ethics: A Practical Guide for Students, Scholars and Professionals (Spokane, WA: Marquette Books, 2006).
Born in Texas and raised in south Arkansas, he holds a bachelor’s degree in history and journalism from Baylor University (1990) and a master’s degree from the University of North Texas’ Mayborn Graduate School of Journalism (2005).
His main research interests include trends and issues in business journalism, media ethics, media practices and performance and journalism history. Secondary interests include propaganda and media-military relations.
