Many students will attend with their families. Dean <a href="http://journalism.indiana.edu/about-us/faculty-staff/bio/?person=182" title="Brad Hamm " tabindex="2">Brad Hamm </a>and other faculty and staff will host the ceremony and many of the donors themselves will attend to meet the students who are awarded the funds.<br><br>The school has notified winners and requires that they attend the ceremony as part of the scholarship process.<br><br>]]></content:encoded>

Lee will talk about her work covering cultural trends and about her book, <em>The Fortune Cookie Chronicles</em>, when she visits at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Ernie Pyle Auditorium.<br><br>The School of Journalism and the Asian Culture Center are co-sponsoring her lecture.<br><br>Lee&rsquo;s book examines the evolution of Chinese cuisine in America, starting with the fact that there are more Chinese restaurants in the U.S. than McDonald&rsquo;s, Burger King and KFC combined, according to the <a href="http://www.fortunecookiechronicles.com/about/author/" title="book&amp;#8217;s Web site" tabindex="2" target="_new">book&#8217;s Web site</a>. <br><br>This led Lee, 33, to travel the world to find the origins of Chinese food. She found that no one in General Tso&rsquo;s Chinese hometown had ever heard of the popular dish and that fortune cookies originated in Japan. The book also is part memoir, sharing her own story as a child of immigrants. <br><br>At the Times, she has written about poverty, the environment, crime, <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/24/nyregion/24election.html?_r=1" title="politics" tabindex="2" target="_new">politics</a> and technology. But she also has written about off-beat topics, such as what straight men talk about when they can&rsquo;t talk about sports  (<a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/10/fashion/10date.html?ex=1270785600&amp;en=37be779e04f07228&amp;ei=5088" title="the Man Date" tabindex="2" target="_new">the Man Date</a>) or<a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/18/us/18heaven.html?ex=1305604800&amp;en=0606bfab6929a5f0&amp;ei=5088&amp;partner=rssnyt&amp;emc=rss" title=" trends in baby names" tabindex="2" target="_new"> trends in baby names</a>.<br><br>As for her own name, the figure 8 is her legal middle name. Her parents did not give her a middle name, so she chose &ldquo;8&rdquo; because it is connotes &ldquo;prosperity&rdquo; in Chinese, according to <a href="http://www.hachettebookgroup.com/authors_Jennifer-8-Lee-(1077232).htm" title="her bio at her publisher&amp;#8217;s Web site" tabindex="2" target="_new">her bio at her publisher&#8217;s Web site</a>.<br><br>]]></content:encoded>

He also writes features for other H-T products, including Business Network and Homes and Lifestyles magazines. <br><br>He offered reassurance to journalism students that there is a place for the profession and he offered tips to help them get started.<br><br>&ldquo;When you know what you have to get, just get your work down,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;Reread and rewrite.  Have you ever met a baby who&rsquo;s ready to take on the world?  Unless it&rsquo;s a sea turtle, no.&rdquo;  <br><br>The benefits are worth the work, he said. Pierson claims that being a journalist gives him the opportunity to make peoples&rsquo; lives better.  <br><br>&ldquo;I love to be able to write to people,&rdquo; he said.  &ldquo;When someone comes up to me and says &lsquo;thank you, I needed that,&rsquo; that can keep me going all week.&rdquo; <br><br>A resident of Bloomington for more than a decade, Pierson balances being a journalist, arts supporter and business owner. He is artistic director for Mind&rsquo;s Ear Audio Productions and is editorial services coordinator at Author Solutions, the largest print-on-demand publishing company in the world. A playwright himself, Pierson&rsquo;s play, &ldquo;Mourning Lori,&rdquo; was produced two years ago at the John Waldron Arts Center.  <br><br>&ldquo;Time management is a juggling act like anything else,&rdquo; Pierson said.  &ldquo;It&rsquo;s exhausting being me, but I wouldn&rsquo;t have it any other way.&rdquo; <br><br><br><br>]]></content:encoded>

Other speakers include School of Journalism associate professor <a href="http://journalism.indiana.edu/about-us/faculty-staff/bio/?person=176" title="Steve Raymer" tabindex="2">Steve Raymer</a> speaking on how photojournalists frame the Arab and Muslim world. Journalism professor emerita <a href="http://journalism.indiana.edu/about-us/faculty-staff/bio/?person=166" title="Chris Ogan" tabindex="2">Chris Ogan</a> and professor <a href="http://journalism.indiana.edu/about-us/faculty-staff/bio/?person=1282" title="Lars Willnat" tabindex="2">Lars Willnat</a> will moderate two of the workshop sessions. <br><br>The workshop is part of an ongoing project, &ldquo;Voices and Visions of Islam and Muslims from a Global Perspective,&rdquo; which aims to build intercultural between Muslims and non-Muslims through programming, according to organizers. Kirkwood Ave. He is the second guest of the School of Journalism&rsquo;s spring <a href="http://journalism.indiana.edu/journalism-experiences/speakerseries/" title="Speaker Series" tabindex="2">Speaker Series</a>, a program that brings free lectures to the Bloomington area. <br><br>Kroft, 63, has been with CBS News for 28 years, 20 of those spent working at <em>60 Minutes</em>, the weekly news magazine. Kroft has interviewed President Barack Obama twice since the presidential election, most recently for a <em>60 Minutes</em> segment March 22. <br><br>While he has interviewed many politicians and newsmakers over his career, Kroft also was the first American journalist to report from the site of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. His work has led him to interview eco-terrorist groups, smugglers, international leaders and government bureaucrats. Before joining <em>60 Minutes</em>, he was an international correspondent based in London who covered hijackings, wars and other conflicts.<br><br>Kroft is a recipient of three George Foster Peabody Awards and 11 Emmy awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Emmy for his body of work.  He is a graduate of Syracuse University and earned a master&rsquo;s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
